Jeff has been playing music since he was he was eight.  He survived many years of piano and guitar lessons and in the last decade mandolin.  Jeff played guitar in his first band in middle school which developed a following in the Detroit area where Jeff was raised.

Alex Shukoff

Guitar, Dobro, Vocals

Alex started his music career in third grade with the violin. He continued playing violin through high school until he decided to switch to guitar since he thought it would attract more girls.

Alex jammed pretty much every day with a great drummer friend of his and was part of a garage band that never really went anywhere but had a lot of fun.

JAVA really began his musical career for real and has been a great part of his life since. Music has been the source of great friends through orchestra in high school, jamming with friends, and now with JAVA!

Vern Lindberg

Vern  has been playing music since he was 17. Growing up during the Great Folk Scare of the ‘60s as well as the British Invasion, he was influenced by traditional folk music, Lightfoot, Cohen, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones.

His primary instrument is a Larrivée guitar, and he alternates between fingerpicking and flatpicking. Other instruments he threatens to learn are the banjo, the fiddle, and the bodhran. He has also begun to write songs.

He has completed his first  solo CD, A Farm Boy's Work, with 14 tracks, 11 of which are originals. Contact him for information of how to get the CD.

Having retired from his day job as a Physics Professor at RIT, he spends his time on music with JAVA and the Golden Link Folk Singing Society, birdwatching, and cooking.

Steve Keenan

Upright bass, Vocals

Steve Keenan, a Rochester native, was inspired at an early age by his father's natural ability to play piano and the sound of his mother always singing.  Steve started with piano lessons and playing guitar and organ but finally settled on the bass as his most beloved instrument. Influenced by the Beatles and 60s music, Steve's professional career included rock bands based in Buffalo (Shylo, Cock Robin) and Boston (Crazy Legs, Fate).

In the late 90's he added the upright bass which allowed him to branch out with the Roberts and Music Makers big bands, the Greece Jazz Band, worship, and classical music.

After a long career as a Senior Systems Analyst at Kodak, Steve is currently a member of the Sunrise Cantorum (worship music), the Westside Jazz Band, the Brick Band (rock), the Roberts Wesleyan Orchestra, and of course, JAVA!
